Onderwerp van Panorama Nederland zijn de veranderingen in het Nederlands landschap ten gevolge van de aanleg van grote infrastructurele projecten. Gedurende een periode van tien jaar (1997 – 2007) zijn alle belangrijke infrastructuurprojecten gevolgd, van HSL tot Westerscheldetunnel, van Betuwelijn tot Rijksweg A73 in Limburg. Uniek is dat vele honderden locaties door geheel Nederland, gefotografeerd zijn vóórdat het bouwen begon. In de daarop volgende jaren zijn de locaties steeds opnieuw gefotografeerd op volstrekt identieke wijze. Wat Panorama Nederland ook tot een bijzonder boek maakt, is dat ik naast de panorama foto’s ook luchtfoto’s gemaakt heb, van zowel de bouwwerkzaamheden als ook van de voltooide projecten. De grote hoeveel informatie en foto’s is zeer toegankelijk door de bijzondere en doordachte vormgeving van Els Kerremans (Typography Interiority & Other Serious Matters, Den Haag). Naast een uitgebreid register van de locaties met kaarten, bevat het boek twee essays over fotografie en landschap, van Dirk Sijmons (landschapsarchitect en Rijksadviseur voor het landschap) en Hans Rooseboom (conservator fotografie van het Rijksmuseum).
The subject of Panorama Nederland are the changes in the Dutch landscape resulting from the construction of major infrastructure projects. Over a ten-year period (1997-2007), all major infrastructure projects were followed, from the High Speed Line to the Western Scheldt Tunnel, from the Betuwe Line to the A73 motorway in Limburg. Uniquely, hundreds of locations throughout the Netherlands were photographed before construction began. In the years that followed, these locations were repeatedly photographed in a completely identical manner. What makes Panorama Nederland a special book is that, in addition to the panoramic photographs, I also took aerial photographs of both the construction work and the completed projects. The eourmous amount of information and photos is nevertheless very accessible thanks to the unique and well-thought-out design by Els Kerremans (Typography Interiority & Other Serious Matters, The Hague). Besides an extensive index of the locations with maps, the book contains two essays on photography and landscape, by Dirk Sijmons (landscape architect and National Landscape Advisor) and Hans Rooseboom (curator of photography at the Rijksmuseum).
